In order to rapidly attenuate the vibration between the frame and body, improve the smoothness and comfort of car driving, shock absorbers are generally installed on the suspension system of cars, and bi-directional cylindrical shock absorbers are widely used in cars.
Shock absorbers are vulnerable components in the use of automobiles. The quality of their operation directly affects the smoothness of vehicle operation and the lifespan of other components. Therefore, we should keep shock absorbers in good working condition regularly. The following methods can be used to check whether the shock absorber is working properly.
1. After driving for 10km on poor road conditions, stop the car and touch the shock absorber shell with your hand. If it is not hot enough, it indicates that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and it is not working. At this point, appropriate lubricating oil can be added before conducting the test. If the shell heats up, it indicates a lack of oil inside the shock absorber, and sufficient oil should be added. Otherwise, it indicates that the shock absorber has failed.
2. Press the bumper firmly and then release it. If the car jumps 2-3 times, it indicates that the shock absorber is working well.
3.When the car is driving slowly and braking urgently, if the car vibrates violently, it indicates that there is a problem with the shock absorber.
4. Remove the shock absorber and stand it upright, clamp the lower connecting ring onto the vise, and apply force to pull and press the shock absorber rod several times. At this time, there should be stable resistance, and the resistance to pull up should be greater than the resistance to press down. If the resistance is unstable or no resistance, it may be due to a lack of oil inside the shock absorber or damage to valve parts, which should be repaired or replaced.
After determining whether there is a problem or failure with the shock absorber, the shock absorber should be checked for oil leakage or signs of old oil leakage. If there is no oil leakage in the shock absorber, the lining should be inspected for any damage, detachment, rupture, or detachment.
If the above inspection is normal, the shock absorber should be further disassembled to check whether the clearance between the piston and the cylinder is too large, whether the cylinder is pulled, whether the valve seal is good, whether the valve disc is tightly attached to the valve seat, and whether the stretching spring of the shock absorber is too soft or broken. According to the condition of the shock absorber connecting pin, connecting rod, connecting hole, rubber, repair should be carried out by grinding or replacing parts. In addition, shock absorbers may experience malfunctions that produce noise during actual use, mainly due to collisions with steel plate springs, frames, or shafts, damage or detachment of rubber pads, deformation of shock absorber dust tubes, insufficient oil, and other reasons. The cause should be identified and repaired. After inspection and repair, the shock absorber should undergo a performance test on a specialized test bench. When the resistance frequency is 100 ± 1mm, the resistance of its stretching and compression stroke should meet the requirements, indicating that the shock absorber is basically normal.
