The importance of shock absorbers is self-evident. Firstly, they can dampen the vibrations transmitted to the vehicle body due to uneven road surfaces or poor driving conditions, maintaining the smoothness and comfort of the ride; The second is to quickly eliminate the vibrations caused by the road surface, ensuring that the wheels grip the ground at all times, thereby ensuring the steering and braking functions of the vehicle and improving the safety of driving. How to detect problems with shock absorbers? We can actually easily detect problems with shock absorbers.
Once you realize that your car is no longer as comfortable to drive as it used to be, then perhaps you need to check it, it is very likely that there is a problem with your shock absorbers. So how to check common faults in car shock absorbers?
1: Observing the car, especially the front part, is relatively simple. Just drive the car on a very flat road surface, ensuring that both sides of the car are at the same height. If you know the specifications of your car's suspension, you can try testing whether it is that height. If this height is not within the normal specifications, it is very likely that there is a problem with the shock absorber.
2: Rebound test. This is a relatively simple and practical method. Firstly, stand in front of your car; Secondly, be careful to place your feet or knees on the curved surface of the bumper, and use both hands to push the car forcefully along both sides. Thirdly, quickly evacuate your feet or knees. Fourth, observe the reaction of the car. If the car keeps bouncing back, it means your shock absorber is broken. If the car rebounds and returns to its original position without further rebound, it indicates that the shock absorber is in good condition. In the empty state, park the car on a flat road and put it in neutral gear. The inspectors stood at the four corners of the car, pressing down with both hands from the corners. When they knew they couldn't press down, they suddenly released their hands and observed the upward rebound of the car body. If the rebound is timely and the body recovers after the rebound, it indicates that the shock absorber is in good condition. On the contrary, if the rebound is slow and the vehicle body repeatedly undulates before gradually returning to rest, it proves that the shock absorber effect is poor, and even has failed.
3: Directly observing the shock absorber with the eyes is a common indicator to check whether the installation point of the shock absorber is intact and whether the shock absorber is corroded. Observe whether there is any moisture on the shock absorber. If the surface is really damp, it means that the liquid inside the shock absorber has leaked and needs to be replaced. Also, during the inspection, you need to drive the car into the garage to confirm your observations and whether the shock absorbers need to be replaced. Be sure to confirm if the liquid you are observing is really from the seal leakage of the shock absorber, as it may be due to water on the surface of the shock absorber.
